The field of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery ranges from simple extractions and surgical removal of buried teeth, most commonly, wisdom teeth, to management of facial trauma. This specialty of Dentistry does most of its work in close collaboration with other Dental Surgeons. For example, in the field of Dental Implants, the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons will perform the complex work of bone grafting to the insertion of the dental implant into the jaw bone. The Dental Surgeon will then take over to complete the crown portion of the dental implant. This is a classic and most common example of how Oral Surgeons work closely with our Dental colleagues.

In Singapore, Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons are very well trained in Orthognathic Surgery (functional jaw surgery) to correct long and short jaws. This is done in collaboration with Specialist Orthodontists (Braces Specialists). The entire process usually takes much planning and coordination between the two specialties.
